What is Neuro-linguistics (NLP)?
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is the Art and Science of Personal Achievement.
Art, because the way we each think and act is unique to us, and any description of feelings, attitudes and beliefs is bound to be highly subjective and personal.
Science, because it incorporates well researched methods that can be used to identify the patterns of successful behavior and develop those patterns in yourself.
In the 1970's John Grinder, professor of linguistics at the University of Santa Cruz, and Richard Bandler, a computer expert and Gestalt therapist, began to explore the structure of what makes someone an expert in their field - what is the difference that makes the difference. They studied leaders in several fields of human behavior such as Milton Erickson, psychiatrist and hypnotherapist, Virginia Satir, family therapist, Fritz Perls, gestalt therapist, and Gregory Bateson, anthropologist. With their discoveries of language patterns and non-verbal patterns of communication they began developing "the study of the structure of subjective experience." Today these methods are widely being used in the fields of sports, business, personal growth and healing, government, performance, and education and have attracted a worldwide following.
The methods they developed have since been applied in the fields of sport, business, government and personal development - attracting a large and worldwide following.
